What is it like in reception class?

Although a child’s first year at school can feel quite daunting, at Grimes Dyke our aim is to make it an exciting one! A year that you and your child will never forget.

Our classroom both indoors and out reflects the Prime and Specific areas of the Early Years Curriculum.

The Prime areas include:

Personal, social and emotional development

Physical development

Communication and language

The specific areas include:

Literacy

Maths

Understanding the world

Expressive arts and design

A typical day will see your child enjoying some stand alone lessons including maths, literacy and phonics. These are short sessions everyday and are taught in a fun and multisensory way.

We have daily snack which is usually set up as a little shop to encourage the children to recognise coins and use them to pay for milk and fruit. They enjoy taking it in turns to be the shopkeeper!
